Brief history

The Faculty of Economic Sciences was founded in 1953, evolved (with small objective interruptions) and constantly developed, becoming a functioning university structure with traditions in higher education of the Republic of Moldova. The content of academic programs, teaching methods and university infrastructure meet the needs of modern academic education, solving economic and financial problems, and developing economic science.
The Faculty of Economic Sciences is one of the largest faculties of the State University of Moldova, recognized nationally as an important center for professional and scientific training in the field of economics, and internationally as a partner and provider of quality education and research.
The image and position currently enjoyed by the Faculty of Economic Sciences has been earned over time through the continuous efforts of its team, which has strengthened the Faculty through competence, professional value, visionary management and, at the same time, great commitment and love for the profession and students.
The quality of educational activities, the professionalism of the teaching staff and the ability to adapt to the dynamics of demand in the labor market made it possible to develop educational programs, as well as an educational offer for students.
Today, the Faculty of Economic Sciences offers a diverse offer of programs: 5 licentiate programs and 9 master’s programs in 2 areas of study: 041.Economic Sciences and 101.Services. All programs have passed national/international accreditation. Graduates of the master’s program can devote themselves to scientific research through advanced training in 5 academic programs in the scientific field 5. Social and economic sciences in two scientific profiles: 521. Economics, business, management and 522. Finance, accounting, economic analysis. The educational offer of the faculty is supported by the concern of the leadership of the faculty and the scientific, pedagogical and didactic staff for the modernization and compatibility of the curriculum through didactic and scientific activities focused on the beneficiaries. Developed courses, teaching materials, library resources, and equipped laboratories support high-quality professional training of students and researchers.
The Faculty of Economic Sciences has entered into successful partnerships with prestigious university centers for the international recognition of specialized diplomas. European and international partnerships provide access to information and exchange of experience, didactic and scientific mobility, as well as double degrees for students of some study programs. Students studying in licentiate, master’s and doctoral programs today can take advantage of the opportunity to obtain double diplomas.
Based on the Institutional Cooperation Agreement signed by USM and the Stefan cel Mare University in Suceava, students studying in the Licentiate program in Finance and Banking and the Master’s program in Financial Audit and Examination can obtain double degrees at the organizing universities. A cooperation agreement for joint supervision of doctoral dissertations was also signed with the Stefan cel Mare University from Suceava.
The Faculty of Economic Sciences strives to create an innovative leadership perspective both in education and research, specific to university economic research, and in the way the academic community can manifest, act and position itself in a direction characterized by productivity and excellence, based on continuity and consistency in achieving the stated goals.
