The USM Faculty of Economic Sciences is an academic structure with a tradition of higher education in the Republic of Moldova. In the fall of 2018, the Faculty of Economic Sciences celebrated the 65th anniversary of its contribution to the development of higher economic education in the Republic of Moldova. In 1953, due to the urgent need for qualified national personnel for economic analysis and planning, the Faculty of Economics was created at the Chisinau State University (then name), the main goal of which was to train highly qualified personnel for industry, finance and lending. The first graduation of the faculty in 1958 marked the beginning of the formation of economists and specialists in the republic who were to actively participate in solving economic and financial problems and in the development of economic science.
Today, the Faculty of Economic Sciences is one of the largest faculties of the State University of Moldova, recognized nationally as an important professional and scientific training center in the field of economics and business administration, and internationally as a partner and provider of quality education and research.
The image and position currently enjoyed by the Faculty of Economic Sciences has been earned over time through the continuous efforts of its team, which has strengthened the Faculty through competence, professional value, visionary management and also great commitment and love for the profession and for the students.
The mission of the Faculty of Economic Sciences is to contribute to the development of the national and European socio-economic environment, both through modern academic programs that contribute to the development of human capital, and through research results that generate innovation and economic growth in the business environment.
The quality of educational activities, the professionalism of the teaching staff and the ability to adapt to the dynamics of demand in the labor market made it possible to develop educational programs, as well as an educational offer for students. Today, the Faculty of Economic Sciences offers a diverse offer of programs: 6 licentiate programs and 10 master’s programs in 2 areas of study: 041.Economic Sciences and 101.Services. Graduates of the master’s program can devote themselves to scientific activity through in-depth training in 5 academic programs in the scientific field 5. Social and economic sciences in two scientific profiles: 521. Economics, business, management and 522. Finance, accounting, economic analysis.
The educational offer of the faculty is supported by the concern of the faculty management and teaching staff for the modernization and compatibility of the curriculum through didactic and scientific activities focused on the beneficiaries. Developed courses, teaching materials, library resources, and equipped laboratories support high-quality professional training of students and researchers. Proof of this is the assessment of national, international and European quality assurance institutes in the field of university curricula. Thus, in 2016, the faculty received international accreditation of 2 licentiate programs: program 0411.1 “Accounting”, accredited by the Association of Chartered Accountants of Great Britain, and program 0412.1 “Finance and Banking”, accredited by the Quality Assurance Agency AQAS in Germany, by decision from May 24 2016. In 2017, 4 out of 5 educational programs organized by departments of the faculty were accredited by the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Professional Education.
Guided by such fundamental principles as: promoting quality and creativity in education; excellence in research; partnership with the labor market; Academic competitiveness at the national and international level, the Faculty of Economic Sciences is now a prestigious subject-matter faculty, recognized internationally both for its achievements in education and research, and for its innovative and effective solutions for the sustainable development of society.
The Faculty of Economic Sciences has entered into successful partnerships with prestigious international university centers in the context of the recognition of specialized diplomas. European and international partnerships provide access to information and exchange of experience, didactic and scientific mobility, as well as double degrees for students of some study programs. Today, students enrolled in two master’s programs and one doctoral program can take advantage of the dual degree opportunity. In accordance with the cooperation agreement signed on February 7, 2017 between USM and the University of Girona (UdG), Spain, some master’s students in the Management and Marketing in Hotel and Tourism program are already pursuing double degrees. And on the basis of the Institutional Cooperation Agreement signed by USM and the Stefan cel Mare University in Suceava, master’s students studying in the Audit and Financial Expertise program can receive double degrees at the organizing universities. A cooperation agreement for joint supervision of doctoral dissertations was also signed with the Stefan cel Mare University from Suceava.
On this anniversary, we want to maintain the prestige gained over time, consolidate what has been achieved and develop the teaching staff of the State University of Moldova as an important center of professional training and innovation through research and recognition at national and international level.
