On October 8, 2024, Moldova State University took part in the international conference “Sustainable Tourism and Blue Growth in the Black Sea Region” in Varna, Bulgaria, hosted by Varna University of Management. The event focused on how the tourism sector can contribute to blue growth, a key driver for sustainable development in the Black Sea area.
Although industries like maritime transport and shipbuilding are often linked to blue growth, coastal tourism and related services remain the largest sector of the EU blue economy, highlighting its importance for regional progress.
During the conference, our university presented the challenges facing tourism in the Republic of Moldova, particularly around sustainability, innovation, and technological solutions. Together with experts from Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, and representatives from businesses and institutions, we explored ways to strengthen the tourism sector’s role in the region’s blue growth.
The conference also marked the official launch of the INTERSMARTS international network, dedicated to fostering innovation in sustainable tourism. Moldova State University is proud to be part of this initiative through the INTERSMARTS project, co-funded by the INTERREG NEXT Black Sea Basin Programme 2021-2027.
